Niger in the fight
against Covid-19

Our health team is mobilizing to stop the spread

We are conducting an extensive awareness campaign around Covid-19 in 36 communities.

This project will be integrated into our already existing mobile health clinic education and care work, operated by our 4-person health team. See our health work here.

Activities we are initiating include sensitizing the people towards social distancing, hand washing with soap, wearing masks and using hand sanitizer.

Further, we will take temperature readings, isolate suspected cases, and direct them to the district hospital.

We want to install hand washing basins in 4 health centers. PPE supplies are needed.

My name is Riskouwa Tchisso Mamane. I am the project leader (head nurse) for the NGO Amman Imman in Niger.

On this occasion I would like to share my video to speak to you about our situation regarding the new coronavirus pandemic, also known as COVID-19, which is now spreading in our country. Niger, like every country in the world, has not been spared.

We reported our first case of COVID-19 on March 19, 2020, and now, two weeks later, we have up to 120 cases that have tested positive for coronavirus. So it is an alarming situation.

We want to raise awareness of protective measures against COVID-19 in communities. And equally... we want to make sure that people are not only aware, but that these protective measures are available to them.

For as you know, we are in a country with few resources. This is evidenced by the fact that there are people in this country who live on less than $2 a day.

So they are unable to obtain these protections, such as cleaning wipes, soap, or even hand sanitizer.

What we want is to let people know not to gather together to avoid spreading the virus. Because in a group of people, if there is one person already infected, they can spread the disease to others.

What we want is for our communities to have hand washing kits, a bucket with a faucet, a basin to collect the dirty water. We also want to explain the  hand washing technique.

This is our goal, and we hope that all people of goodwill will help us to reach this goal, which is a necessity at this time. Without this, we risk having widespread cases, and the situation will be difficult to manage in our own communities.

So on that note, I thank you. We are counting on your support.
