Amman Imman and the John F. Kennedy High School call upon schools, groups and individuals to bring attention to the worldwide water crisis by participating in the 2015 A Walk for Water for the Azawak. Work with your community to raise funds that will help West African nomadic children and families suffering from water scarcity gain access to sustainable water sources and capacity-building projects focused on health, sanitation, food security, education, women’s empowerment, environmental sustainability and livelihood opportunities.

The 2015 A Walk for Water is Amman Imman’s signature spring fundraising and awareness event in the Washington, DC metro area that provides an opportunity for individuals and families to engage in a global community service experience. This year, Amman Imman is delighted to co-host this event with the John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring, Maryland - a school that embraces community service through its signature program, the Leadership Training Institute. We are pleased to have Amman Immanís Founder and Executive Director Ariane Alzhara Kirtley as Opening Ceremony keynote speaker, and Montgomery County Executive Ike Leggett as special guest speaker. A Walk for Water commences with an interactive cultural festival, highlighting the cultures that Amman Imman serves and the issue of water scarcity, that features hands-on activities, food, live music from West Africa, traditional crafts and jewelry for purchase, and live demonstrations for the whole family. During the festival people gather to begin the 5K walk that symbolizes the 35 mile trek children living in the Azawak of West Africa travel to bring water home to their families.

Empowering Youth as Socially Conscious Leaders
Amman Imman engages students worldwide as future leaders guided by compassion and philanthropy as they reach out to our African communities in friendship and solidarity. By fostering cross-cultural respect and solidarity among schoolchildren, AI provides a foundation of experiences that prepare students as global citizens. Through the Wells of Love Program, students in over 130 schools have been empowered as “Heroes of Compassion” - empathic leaders with caring, philanthropic spirits – by bringing water and hope to the children and adults living in the Azawak.

The 2015 A Walk for Waterculminates these students’ year long activities in the Wells of Love Program. Students raise funds by asking people in their school and community, friends, family, and local businesses to sponsor their walk.

Attending the event qualifies Montgomery County Public School students for Student Service Learning (SSL) hours and IB students can qualify for CAS hours. Students and families throughout the Washington, D.C. area are invited to this important event to stand in solidarity with our African brothers and sisters

Fostering Corporate Responsibility
Local businesses are encouraged to participate in this collaborative event as corporate sponsors. The business community has the opportunity to help Amman Imman advance its mission, support our youth as leaders and help individuals and families in West Africa receive critical resources and establish a sustainable community infrastructure. Businesses can provide in-kind donations, become a lead sponsor of the event, showcase their products and services at the festival and support a global cause.

Download the Corporate Sponsorship Packet.

We look forward to your participation!
